White & Williams Co. Heating & Cooling of Asheville is now celebrating over 5O years in business in Asheville/ Buncombe County. From our Asheville base we serve all surrounding counties: Henderson, Haywood, Madison, Yancey, McDowell and Buncombe. Since our beginning we have expanded and grown to a leader in Western North Carolina in heating, cooling and indoor air quality.

White & Williams offers a wide range of products: Thermo Pride Oil Furnaces, Bryant Puron Heat Pumps, Air Conditioners, and a full line of Gas Furnaces, Honeywell Electronic Air Cleaners and Humidifiers.

White & Williams was founded in Asheville, NC in 1955 by the late John Williams and Max White. The firm’s first home was a former grocery store at 401 Haywood Road in West Asheville. This was time when oil was king and coal was dying out. The company sold and serviced heating and cooling units, manufacturing sheet metal products, and selling storm windows and doors. John Williams soon realized he must narrow our field of specialization. John said “We decided to concentrate on heating & cooling.”

In 1960, John Williams bought Max White’s interest in the firm. He emphasized technical training to work on increasingly complicated equipment . He also implemented a retirement plan to attract and retain quality people to keep the company strong. John Williams retired in 1990 ceding control of the company to Al Knapp and Roger Sales. Al Knapp became President Roger Sales became Vice-President. The company remained in West Asheville until 2002, when they moved to their new facility at 514 Swannanoa River Road. Our new facility is much larger and this has allowed us to grow and expand the services we provide. The company now employees a record number of people.

Al Knapp was President and General Manager from 1990 until December 2004 when he passed away. Roger Sales is currently Owner and President of the Company. Ted Lunsford was promoted from Field Supervisor to Vice-President.
